COACHES, QUICK QUESTION REGARDING THE G-TRAP. I HAVE SEEN SOME OF OUR OPP. PASS SET THE DE ON THE BS INSTEAD OF BRINGING HIM INSIDE AND LEAVING T HE BS DE UNBLOCKED. WHAT WE HAVE SEEN WITH THE DEFENSE IS THIS, THE DE IS BLOCKED AND THE BS LB SITS AND WAITS A SEC. LONGER ALLOWING THE FS OG TO GET THERE. WHAT METHOD DO YOU ALL SEE AND USE. WE HAVE USED THE TRADITIONAL METHOD OF TAKING THE BSOT INSIDE FOR BS LB, BUT THERE IS SOME MERIT TO THIS METHOD. THANKS! P.S. THIS METHOD OF PASS SETTING THE DE SEEMS TO WORK VERY WELL WITH AGAINST THE 4-3.
Have your G lead through and just consider the PSOT's an influence block. If your DE is overly agressive, use it against him.
we have severl inside trap schemes. first of all, trap is my favorite play so i have played with it over the years.
anyway, we do the following.
1. Traditional: PSG to LB, BSG traps first DL
2. Sucker - PSG pulls outside to influence - BSG traps first DL
3. G - PSG pulls outside to influence - BSG folds around center and leads on LB.
Now some teams have more of a delayed trap in which they reverse handoff to their FB. Ours is a direct hand off that is QUICK up the gut right through the crotch of the center. We teach our G's to read the trappee. if he is one yd deep he will never make the play. We just lead our G's up to LB.
