I am into my second season with a football program that lack funds to get the basic equipment to build a good football program. Does anyone have good fundraising ideas that they can share that has helped their program financially?
Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.

We haven't done this--our administration will not approve a fundraiser for us--but a lot of people around Minnesota sell the cards with the team picture and schedule on one side and all kinds of savings at local businesses on the other. I know one team in our conference makes about $4000 doing this, and that is in a small town. The company that is big into in Minnesota is called Varsity Gold. I would think they would have a website.
Here is the easist fund raiser and makes the most $$$.
Give the kids 10 stamped envelopes, with 10 prestamped and pre addressed return envelopes. The kids need to address the first 10 envelopes to aunts, uncles, local businesses, friends, etc.... Send a letter that says you are just asking for straight donations rather than trying to sell a 1.00 candy bar etc... with a receipt at the bottom of the letter for them to fill out and keep for proof of a tax donation. We raised 10,000 last fall. We only do the fund raiser every other year.

We do something like coachjd posted. We tie it into what we call a lift-a-thon. Kids can either get straight donations or ask for pledges per pound of wt they bench press. It has evolved into almost enitrely straight donations though. It is is the only fundraiser we do and we average about $5,500 per year. We are a small school so that extra 5K can go a ways.
mrichtma--where in MN do you coach?

Here's a couple we have done that were really successful:
-Lift-a-thon -selling Krispy Kreme donuts ($5/box - football team keeps $2 -selling pizzas ($6/ea - football team keeps $2) -We haven't done the Varsity Gold program yet, but we are considering it. Varsity Gold is the company that sells the discout cards with the school logo on it.
If you are going to sell stuff to raise money, find things that are new or things that people want. That's why the Krispy Kreme and pizza sales have been productive for us. People love Krispy Kremes (and the nearest one is over 40 miles away) and the pizza we sold were really good.
Our booster club by passed Varsity Gold and did the cards themselves. By doing so, they made an extra 20% and they made valuable contacts in the community for future fundraisers. Why cut Varsity Gold in on theaction when you can do it yourself?
Every player sends a formal letter to 10 relatives/family friends asking for a donation. List what the money will buy. They send the money in with the letter enclosed of how much they sent.

Were not using this as a fundraiser. We use it as motivation to get in the weight room but their is a great interest in students and parents to get one so I guess it would make some money. Its like those live strong bands. with 'TOMAHAWK PRIDE" on them. We got them from spiritband.com their good quality items. You can have anything you want put on them and in any color. The first 15 letters are free but 25 cents ea. additional letter.
