Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
We are pretty much about like Coach Cella. We will work in a 5 minute goal line or other special situations. Special situations have included end of game scenarios like they other team needs a first down to run out the clock and we need to stop them for example. We would then tie this into the offense if we get the stop. But all in all we are always between 20-30 minutes.
What are thoughts on offense one day and defense the next in a small school setting? We have done defense on Tuesday and O on Wed. If it is Off emphasis day we do not have defensive indiviual or group work, we still do some kind of tackling drill and team defense. Vice vera on Tues. It seems to get us more quality time as opposed to fitting both in one practice. How do other small school coaches do it. Lou I would be interested to hear your practice plan.

On defensive day, not including stretch, water breaks, special teams or whatever, we usually do the following:
10 minutes: Tackling Stations (3 min each station, plus "change station time") Form Tackle Angle Tackle (with shield-no bringing to the ground) Open Field Tackle (without shield-no bringing to the ground)
10 minutes: Run and / or Pass Pursuit Drill (used as conditioning period-fast paced and disciplined to proper angles)
5 minutes: Oklahomas or West Points-full tackle
15 minutes: Individuals
10 minutes: Run Groups D Line and LB's work against opponent's front 6 or 7 to recognize run blocking schemes and practice reads / fits/ reaction Secondary works on contain, run rotation, alley fill, etc. If facing option or specialty offense, we may mix our groups differently and run different styles of drills (assignments, etc)
15 minutes: Pass Groups Pass Skelleton for LB's DB's Pass Rush and Stunt game for DL, DE, etc.
30 minutes: Team Defense vs. Scout Offense Various scenarios, various levels of intensity
We practice both sides of the ball each day. there is equal time given to both. We run a timing offense so we feel we need to have reps every day. The downside is you have to organize each practice and week effectively so you don't spend all night onthe practice field.
This is our weekly practice breakdown. We practice O/D/Specials everyday.

At my school we work a schedule like this: Monday - film review of previous weeks game with kids (20-30 min.) - stecthing, running, special teams walkthrough(25 - 30 mins) - installation of new plays off/def (25 - 30 mins) - weight room (45 - 60 min.) send them home. We usually have Monday practice in helmets and shorts (we typically play on Saturdays) Tuesday - Offense - We do all of our drill work and indy work and try to work both sides at the same time because most of our kids are 2 way players so in WR drills we will work on beating the press in 1 on 1 drills, etc. Wednesday - Defense - Same as Tuesday just with a defensive focus. Thursday - Split time half Off. and half Def. Friday - Pregame - No pads, kids in game jerseys and helmets Special Teams - EVERYDAY!!!!!!!!! I don't think that you can practice ST too much imo.

We practice offense and defense every day. Defensively we get about 60 to 70 minutes of defense. We can use this time as we see fit. There is always a 10-15 minute individual period individual period. Depending on the offense we will see, we might go 1/2 line for a big chunk of time with small group and team periods. Or we might go with individual, a big group period and a big team period.
