Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
I have 40 minutes with my QB's on Thursday mornings. We run an option offense, 60% under and 40% gun. What are some suggestions for running this workout? What drills should I use?
I would spend the vast majority of the 40 minutes allotted (25 min) on read drills, coach. 15 minutes on mechanics (steps, pitch, etc.). Having run the triple for a lot of years (ISV + OSV) I can tell you the option QB does not have to have all the mechanical skills in the world, BUT HE DOES HAVE TO HAVE THE BRAINS TO MAKE THE CORRECT READS. The reading proficiency that he will need is only precipitated by rep after rep of everything he will see on game night that the defense can possibly do to him. If you are a veer option (triple) team, teach him the double read progression of the inside veer first (DT to TE) and then the single read on the EMlOS IN THE OUTSIDE VEER BECOMES A VERY SIMPLE PROCESS TO TEACH. A FAVORITE DRILL IS TO PUT THE DLM IN A 5-4-4I (FACING A 50 LOOK) AND TEACH HIM THE PROGRESSION OF THE PSL READ FIRST. 5 TECH= AUTOMATIC GIVE 4TECH= READ 4i TECH= AUTOMATIC PULL AND GO TO NEXT READ (DE). WORK ON 5 TECH PINCHING DOWN, ETC. If you would like to discuss this further, as it is far too big a topic, please call me at 864-958-5945 during working hours and i will discuss this tpoic at length with you.
