zone read with guard log

Thanks for the response just looking for any negatives; as you said, a squeezing DE would result in a keep read by the Q, but in watching tape and practice it seems that the defensive ends are coached up to squeeze just enough to produce a give read by the Q. He rarely flies down far or fast enough to produce a keep read by the Q, thus the ball is given to the RB the vast majority of the time. In doing this he produces a give read and usually doesn't get to the RB on the give but is still in position to reduce the cut back lane by the RB and take quarterback if he decides to keep the ball (he kinda gives the quarterback a gray read.) My thinking on the guard log of the end is we are eliminating him from the picture and are definitively getting the ball to the perimeter after the fake to the RB and then optioning #2. In doing this the backers and secondary people can't overplay the zone, because they must now concern themselves with pursuit to the perimeter. This would just be a change up to the normal read option just like triple option teams run various loaded options in addition to their base triple schemes.

"Fuzzy reads" as I know them as (your term Gray Read) are the nemisis of any and all option QB's. The DT in a 50 for example can take himself out of the play with either a 5 tech or a 4i tech look in the PSL by a well coached QB who knows that they become either an automatic pull or give. BUT, the DT who plays a straight up 4 (gives the QB a fuzzy read that has to be deciphered) is worth his weight in gold against a good triple team running the ISV. A a QB, I intensley disliked DT's who can master the "fuzzy Read".
