Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
I have been studying Utah's run offense and I am confused with one aspect. I see the qb's steps on the zone (open, read) and then I also see him jump and ride. I don't understand the difference in scheme. Is it mid-line? It looks like it is block the same way as the read. Is it because of the front? Can anyone help me out. Thank you.
Take a look at the backs steps also. They are running two different plays - the zone and the veer/midline. When the QB rides downhill the back "split-jumps" then heads downhill for the veer/midline. For the zone the back will step flat-inside and jump cut for the mesh - "slow to-fast thru". The QB will ride across his body on zone.

Tiger cat is correct on this. It is the veer option and the zone read option that you are talking about. On the veer you will see the qb actually push the los and on the zone he will just open and pivot. As for the rb, on the zone read it looks more like a draw play with his footwork being to shuffle over, and on the veer look he is taught to drop step with his inside foot 45 deg. Hope this helped you.
