Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
We ran a trap the past two years that came from some of our spread offense roots, and we only ran it out of gun, and it was one of our most successful plays.
From a four wide 1 back gun set, the playside tackle combos down on the DT, and the OG steps playside and gets the combo as they crush on to linebacker. The center steps backside gap and seals to linebacker as the backside tackle steps playside gap to linebacker as the Backside guard pulls and traps the defensive end. The RB lines up playside, starts in across the QBs face like it is an inside zone from gun but then takes the handoff, turns and cuts off the pulling guard's block. The QB hands off and continues a boot fake to playside, so it looks at first exactly like our inside zone handoff and often outside linebackers and safeties chase the QB as the back runs by them.
We also run this with a tight end, and two backs, the backside back just seals the backside DE. Anyway, I was having trouble drawing this up from under center, from normal split backs, any ideas? We don't want to change things wholesale or have to make really other calls, just so we don't have to always run this run from gun.
What about reversing out and trying it as an inside handoff. The crossbuck would work and it would be easy to reverse out, have the back counter step and run it from the I formation if you run that.
