Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
As you know if the QB is in the gun it gives the back time to block a mug linebacker if he comes on a blitz where as if the QB is under center he can't get to him without interfering with the QB or the backer will get there first causing the offense to make a gap call so the lineman blocks the linebacker. Plus if you have the QB in the gun the back can scan the defense better and you can allow him to crossover the QB quicker to block a threat on the side oppostie where he is aligned.
Gun can give the QB a little more time in passing - particularly in the 5 step game - (IMO it doesn't help the Back's pickup), but how many NFL teams run the ball worth a damn in the GUN? It is a tradeoff. Don't recall Walsh putting Montana in the Gun, nor Gibbs with Theismann. They still managed to throw the ball pretty well
The COLLEGE teams that DO run the ball well in the Gun run the hell out of the QB. That's good for them, but not something I want to do.
