Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
Tiger one, I have read where you used to coach the option game and coach your QB to read the 4/5 Tech. on the Inside veer. If I remember correctly you coached him to give EVERYTIME vs a 5 tech. and if the FB was tackled by the 5 Tech. get a new FB!! VS a 4 Tech it was an automatic pull. Do you still believe Inside Veer vs a 5 Tech. is an automatic give, regardless of what the 5 does. In other words if the 5 crashes do you feel you can still give the ball almost all of the time? VS a 4 tech. would you try to run Outside Veer and block him down? Thanks a lot, History 10
Still stick with my automatic give verses a 5 tech, yes! An automatic pull is determined by a 4i, not a 4 as you have to read a 4. Pinching 5 techs can't beat a good FB, especially on the HS level, IMO. If you face a really good DT who can play a 4 tech, he is the nemesis of the ISV for sure. Going to the OSV is always a viable solution, yes, but I like to think that I will have my QB's well versed enough to read him and make the correct decision most of the time. Always remember an old option adage, coach: You may have made a better read, but your never wrong giving it to the dive back!

If he can really play and is giving you a hard time on the ISV AND HE IS ANTICIPATING THE OPTION, just start blocking his butt and change plays. You don't have to move a hole over, although that works well also under certain curcumstances. When I would catch him starting to ANTICIPATE, instead of making it an automatic pull as some do (that leaves the perimeter still prepared to play you well as any team with any sense playing an option team, imo, plays assignment football) I would go to a play we call 24 wham where we fake the dive and send the FB straight to Mike, turn out on the 5 tech and pull the BSG to wrap into the hole and here comes the football. You have to keep him from anticipating and gain that split second edge to beat a pinching 5 on your ISV attempts. Just my way.
