Coaches
I have been interview for head jobs in NE Alabama. I am wanting to run the shotgun option offense. But everybody I have mentioned it too thinks I am crazy. Because this has always been a run heavy state. And all I hear is that the shotgun is a hurry up offense. It cant be run all game. I guessmy question is should I go with a different style of offense or should I be an individual and go against the grain.

teach / coach what you know in a manner that best fits the type of kids you have and/or the level of comprehension they are at. maintain the integrity of your offensive system and philosophy while "bringing it along slowly". i suggest employing pieces of the system at a time. for 1, it allows players to grasp a completely new offense in pieces. they don't feel overwhelmed and can begin to see the benefits of why this system works best for them. secondly, it allows you to slowly "win over" those assistants, boosters, administrations, players, etc. that are unfamiliar with what you want to do. as they see the benefits of the offense, the myths become broken down and more of the offense can be added.

I am in Alabama and I can assure you that spread offenses are rampant. Maybe not in the NE part of the state, which I am unfamiliar with, but in almost every division there are spread teams. The majority of teams in the state championship last year ran some form of spread. If there is a complete lack of this type of offense in the NE part of the state, that is all the more reason why it might be successful as teams always have trouble with offenses they rarely see. You might want to emphasize that the spread can be a run heavy offense. A lot of people don't realize that you can run the triple option out of the gun.
