Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
coach Golla I recntly watched your vidoes and think they are great. I have a question about slanting. We run the 3-5 defense and i was wondering when you slant, would you ever have you d lineman say the NG for example, slant to the guard, and attack him, trying to stop him from reaching the linbacker as opposed to penetrating the gap? With all the slanting that is done in the 3-5 we want to create confusion for the o line, so would attacking the next lineman be a good idea? Also how far do you back your lineman up vs man blocking teams? thanks for any input
That a good question and I wonder that too! I watch technique videos or read books and they say AIM for the next OL'man to where you want to slant. Rose, do you think it would be possible to have the DL slant hard at the next O-lineman, have them attack the near # but get their eyes to the feet of the backfield, make a read and redirect?

whether shaded or head up, we have our guys slant and read one man down. Our NT, on the center, wll take a slide step to the G and rip with his arm (opposite the G he is reading) and will rip through center and read the "V" of the Guard. If the G pulls, go with him, if the G squeezes down, fight through him (never going around and chasing) and if the G is blocking straight ahead, chip and be responsible for A gap. We want the guy to read the G and find the football. G's tell the story about where the ball is going. We DO NOT want our G chest to chest with the G - that is NOT the philosophy of what we are trying to do. We want to: 1. be on the move 2. be unpredictable 3. avoid 2 gapping from a heads up read 4. disrupt blocking schemes 5. keep folks off LB's 6. play on the heels of the OL - dont get too deep
We have 2 types of slants/pinches. We will make a slam call to attack the OG's for slant or pinches. Or we will make a slant and pinch call that tells them to get into the gap. Our thinking with the second call is that we want the OL overtop of us to come with us as we slant or pinch into the gap... thus opening a hole for the LBs.
