I was just wondering how many of yall are coaching ball and working as a school counselor or maybe you work with or know someone who is doing the same. I am currently attending grad school and attaining my masters in school counseling and I am coaching ball at a local high school- but I have talked to some counselors who stated they were not allowed to coach any sports(or know of people who did not get hired becuase they wanted to coach). They stated that the administration expects them to be in the office at least an hour after school and so forth and that it takes up too much time. Have any coaches had trouble finding an open job plus an opportunity to coach at one school? I know it can be done, but I would like to hear any stories or info from current coaches and not from non-coaching school counselors.
Any input would be greatly appreciated! Keep pluggin away!

I know of SEVERAL head coaches up here in Northeastern Pennsylvania who are school counselors for their in-house position. The school at which I teach, the head coach is an elementary guidance counselor.

At my school I hold the job title of "Administrative Assistant". It amounts to a dean/counselor. I have never really had a problem with the demands of the position and the coaching. My supt is a former football coach and understands the demands of the job. As long as I am doing the work of the district in coaching football there is no problem.
