My first interview is next week. What do I need to ake with me. I have a packet with my offensive and defensive playbook in it. Is there anything extra i need to take or anything I should expect
I've interviewed at over 15 schools. I've been a head coach and an assistant. I can recall ONCE when somebody looked at my playbook. These people usually don't care. They want to know how you will run your program. Coaches who can call plays are a dime a dozen.

I would have a "portfolio" that gives your ideas/philosophy on the following things:
OVERVIEW PHILOSOPHY WHAT I EXPECT FROM AN ASSISTANT COACH WHAT ASSISTANT COACHES CAN EXPECT FROM ME HEAD COACH RESPONSIBILITIES VARSITY ASSISTANT RESPONSIBILITIES FRESHMAN COACH RESPONSIBILITIES WEEKLY PRACTICE BREAKDOWN WHAT I EXPECT FROM PLAYERS ACADEMICS TEAM RULES COMMUNITY RELATIONS
I highly doubt that they interviewing committee will ask you any questions on X's or O's. I would expect them to ask a lot of "what if..." questions. They want to find out how you will handle various situations (violations of team rules, academics, overbearing boosters, relationship with the band, etc).
I have had 11 head coaching interviews and am now a head coach, always took playbook and never really talked about it. I like to have a very detailed portfolio with every thought about superchiefs ideas, plus media relations, off-season program, character ed, and anything else you can think of. Get this portfolio bound and take a copy to everyone who is on the interviewing committee. Keep a table of contents in front of you during the interview, answer the questions and refer to where you have it in the porfolio. THis shows preperation and organiztion, the keys to success, not x's and o's.
Most of the interviewing committees DON'T KNOW SQUAT ABOUT X AND 0'S, THATS WHY THEY DON'T ASK!!! Especially in this day and time with everybody on the search gang from students to parents to the local garbage collector!!!
