Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
We are struggling with it right now. The 5 tech seems to take 2 steps and the QB does not get a good read, the DE seems to influence the shovel and make the play. We run speed pretty well out of gun, but when the QB pauses to for the shovel, we then can't get around the DE. We do better with a 6, but the 5 is killing me right now.
After watching some Utah cutups on the crazy option it seems that the QB is running horizontal to the LOS rather than down hill like on speed option. You may be already doing this, but the by running the qb horizontal to the LOS it should bring the DE up the field further and make it a easier read for the QB. IMO

as JD mentions running Parrel to the L.O.S. it will stretch the read man and he can't play both QB and the running back. You don't want your QB down hill until read has committed. Coach CAmpbell
The crazy option is a double option with the QB reading the playside DE. If the DE comes up field the QB will pitch the ball forward (shovel pass) to the RB or slot coming under the QB's alignment. If the DE stays at home or flat down the LOS, the qb will carry out the option to the PS RB or the slot receiver.
