I would like to get some advice on how to start an inseason strength program. The school that I coach at has a great weight room and the head coach has asked me to put together an inseason weight program for the football team. This is my first year at the school and the strength program has not been very good in the past. With summer weight training about to end and practice starting up I have been debating how to develop a good inseason program. I understand not to over train the athletes because of practice and time. As of right now there as not been any testing done in weight lifting since last semester and I think the kids need to test before they start an inseason program, but this won't happen until school starts. If anyone get give advice as how to test and implimenting a inseason work out it would be greatly appreciated
Is it possible to have your players max out on at least box squat and bench or some variation before the season? How much time is your HC going to allow in the weight room? I don't think you need to go more than twice a week. We keep it very minimal. Last year we did squat and RDL on one day, then bench press and row on the other day with some abs. It depends on your situation though. I know a lot of people do a lot more. For the most part, I want my guys to maintain their strength and possibly gain a little, but it is football season so I want their best efforts on the practice and game field.
