Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
thats what i thought but do you double the three tech? or do you double the 7 tech and chip to OLB? I know there are a hundred ways of doing this but I want to do it the most efficiently, vs a 50 you double the nose, vs the 4-3 you double the three tech, now vs the 4-4 are you asking the guard to handle the three tech by himself?
#1 I am talking about the old So Cal "BLAST" (Iso), NOT the ZONE-ISO (where you use pure insidezone blocking & still lead on the LB).
Vs the 4-4 you don't get the double on the 3. G blocks 3, T blocks DE, TE blocks OLB. FB ISOS A gap backer. Everybody else blocks ON/AWAY (turns back).
This is the PURE ISO. Most people today zone block & lead thru. We PREFER to isolate a B GAP LB as opposed to an A Gap LB, but it CAN BE DONE!
PS: Look for John McKay's book when he was at So Cal. He POPULARIZED the "I ISO". Don'y remember the title. Do a search by author. I do remember the book was published by Ronald Press.
TE blocks OLB
OT+OG combo to PSLB
Center to backside scoop.
FB kicks out 7 tech
TB gets in the seam.
Second.
TE blocks out on OLB
OG and OT cross block
Backside scoops.
FB leads up on PSLB
TB follow the FB.
Both are power seam schemes. If you see a 2-7-9 front just have the OG base the 2 tech while the OT climbs to the ILB. TE blocks out on OLB and FB kicks out 7 tech..
i think that the best way to do it may be with the fb kicking out the 7 tech, because IF he can do that it will be a big play, i don't like isolating on the ILB and i don't know how much movement the PSG can get on the three tech, so I like the idea of combo blocking to the ILB w/ G&T, I just hope we can kick out w/ the FB, basically this becomes more of a power play w/out the BSG sealing
I agree based on its simple. We would also run the "A" gap ISO with both sides fan blocking out and the center blocking the backside backer vs a true split front.
If you want to make the play an off tackle lead play, you can have the PST and TE crossblock.
C - Takes BSILB and the rest of the backside scoops.
PSG - Blocks 3 tech
PST and TE - Cross block, with TE blocking the 7 and the T taking the 9.
FB leads through C gap with the TB following.
It's anotherer way of skinning the cat in a similar way to Coach Carbon's second method. You're just leading through the C gap. We preferred this versus a 2 tech instead of 3 tech though.
Last season we faced a 4-4 team that would put a 3, 7 and 9 to both sides. We ran middle iso by basing out the 3s, center went to backside ILB and FB went playside ILB. We probably ran the play 25 times. Our TB had over 300 yards.
WE RUN THE IZ LEAD WHERE WE TELL THE FB TO LEAD ON THE PSLB AND WE THEN GET A HEAVY COMBO ON THE LOS. NO ONE HAS TO LEAVE THE COMBO BECAUSE THE RB IS LEADING ON THE LB. THIS IS ONLY PS, BS WILL STAY WITH THEIR IZ RULES. BSG CUTS THE A GAP OF GET BS LB, BSOT WILL CUT THE B GAP OR GET BS LB.
WE PLAY TWO 3 TECH AND W HAVE HAD GREAT SUCCESS STOPPING THE ISO. OUR OLB (ROVER) MAKES SOME GREAT PLAYS FOR LOSS BECAUSE THE BALL HAS TO BOUNCE OUTSIDE WHEN THE HOLE IS PLUGGED.
Hoshos, where are your inside backers technique wise? I guess some of it depends on personnel, but I don't see how you stop the play when the guards can just turn out the 3 techs, Center can go backside backer, and fullback can lead on playside backer. Thanks in advance for your response.
For example this week we are going to be playing a team that likes to Iso to the weak side out of a pro and con set. For us this plays into our scheme, tour Rover to the weak side is un blocked and can make a play. Now if they go twins the Rover goes out since we are in Cov. 1 but the FS will now help and we also have the ability to go Cov. 0 which keeps the Rover home. The other thing we do is tell our DT's to reduce down to ehavy 3 whcih is really a 2, or we will simply pinch our DT into A and have ILB take B. The ILB's are at 4 yards. sitting right in the A gap
