This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
Now, correct me if I'm wrong b/c I haven't had much experience with the term "mirror step". But isn't it essentially the same as Coach Golla's stimulus response. That is, if the OT steps w/his outside foot at a 45 degree T step to reach block the DE, the DE would take a 45 degree step with his outside foot to protect his gap...??
We use the stimulus response system but I've been thinking about adding that terminology to it.
I played this technique at Jacksonville State Univ. under Coach Charlie Pell. He and the staff got it from Ga. Tech at that time. We drilled on head movement of the offensive guard from a 3 tech. alignment. Attacked the guard reading him and pressure. Drill this until I started dreaming about the drill in my sleep. It became a reaction, protects LB's, never get reached and never let the guard inside release (mash him through the center area, shoulders square) destroys the trap. BSLB is then free and you will have 3 bodies in the trap hole...you-the mashed to center guard-trapping guard + the scraping LB that is free. I can't ever remember getting trapped. We were undfeated in 1970 with a bunch of scrappy believing kids. jr235
This is the technique that HOWIE LONG used to pray for because as the mirror step takes place, he would break their back with his famous CLUB TECHNIQUE. You can't really employ a successful club unless the guy steps with you.

As long as the initial step attacks the LOS you are aggressive the key is not to mirror with a flat step. What a pleasure to know you are feeling better and to have you coming back to the site. Keep up the great job. Coach CAmpbell

When stepping with the shaded foot first that is known as a power step, the mirror step will be with the same foot as the offensive lineman. Coach CAmpbell

When ever you mirror step as a defensive lineman your goal is to mirror and be in the same position you were in prior to the snap of the ball. Coach Campbell
The mirror step accomodates offensive schemes that zone block as well as man blocking schemes. The idea is to assist in movement and gaining one step advantage of the offensive linemen you are aligned over.
