Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
What are you using for a late in the game pass prevent when you know the opponent is going deep on you? We are only using Cover 2 & 3. I don't think this is enough. What about the Nickel or 4 quarters? Any suggestions? Thanks!
On a last play of the game situation we go with a nickel look and play 3 deep. The 4 under coverage players play on the line and collision the quick receivers. We widen the DEs and they come off the edge while the DTs bull rush.
We are a 5-2 defense. So I pull out the nose guard and put in a DB. They cover the TE man, CB's cover the WR man and the 2 LB cover the other two receivers (RB's). There are two safeties that are deep and free.
I wouldn't recomend a true cover 2 zone, unless you teach your corners to pattern read and go deep with the #1 receiver if #2 also goes deep. Cover 4 is a better alternative if they are going deep. 3 Deep is OK versus a pro set with 2 backs, but if the spread it out and can send 4 deep, it's not so great. I like the option of going man underneath with 2 safeties free over the top to help.
