We are playing an I team this week whose bread and butter play is the power off tackle play in which the FB kicks out the 1st man outside OT, BSG pulls and leads and everyone else down blocks. Looking for successful strategies for stopping the play from my fellow 4-4 coaches.
We see this play quite a bit in different forms. We always teach our defensive ends to wrong arm the kickout block to spill the play to the outside linebacker. The goal of this play is to get going downhill so anything you can do to make it move laterally will help. Good luck.
The switch stunt between DE and OLB will help.Have the OLB play the C-gap and the DE contain.Lots of missed assignments. Also crash your DE in the C-gap and blitz the OLB off the edge.
wE PLAY THE SPLIT 44 AND WE HAVE FACED 2 TEAMS ALREADY THIS YEAR WHO MAKE A LIVING ON THE POWER PLAY. ONE TEAM FROM THE I AND THE OTHER FROM DBL. Y / T. THE SWITCH STUNT IS GREAT AND THAT IS OUR BASE DEFENSE, THE OFFENSE HAS TO MAKE A CHOICE ARE THEY GOING TO KO MY DE WHO IS COMING LIKE A TRAIN, OR ARE THEY GOING TO ARC TO THE DE AND LET MY OLB WRONG ARM THE PLAY. THE DE DOES NOT WRONG ARM IN THIS DEFENSE HE WILL CUT OR JUST BLOW UP THE OG. YOUR PSILB SHOULD MAKE THIS PLAY IF HE IS READING THE WINDOW ONCE THAT OT BLOCKS DOWN...BAM FILL THE C-GAP AND THE BSILB SHOULD FILL THE PS A - GAP. THE POWER IS FULL FAST FLOW AND BOTH LB'S NEED TO READ THAT. WE HAVE PLAY A TRUE 6-2 WITH THE DE ON THE OT'S AND THE OLB ON THE TE AND IT DID NOT WORK BECAUSE OF THE ANGLES THE OLINE HAD...THAT DE COMING OFF THE EDGE IS TOUGH. WE ALSO RUN A PINCH STUNT WITH THE FRONT, OUT OF OUR BASE THE SDE WOULD GO C-GAP THE THE OLB WOULD LOOP TO D-GAP AND THEIR ROLES ARE CHANGED.
