Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
Sunday we play against a team that uses the same defense we do. I suppose it's because we've seen a lot of success with it, but this defense is being used more and more in our league now. What we will see vs. a two tight end set is a DT in both A gaps, DE's in both C gaps, the two inside linebackers are lined up over the guards with B gap responsibility, and the two OLB's are lined up outside the end man on the line of scrimmage. The corners and safety play cover three. What can we do to attack this defense? I know the main thought is, that when you encounter 8 in the box you have to throw, but at the youth level, that isn't something you can do consistently. So you have to rely on the running game more. Any ideas would be appreciated.
Here are a few suggestions for you as to how I would attack the front you described. Good luck.
1) Iso to either B gap.
2) Inside Veer to C gap using the DE as a give read and blocking the pitch read with your playside TE.
3) Toss to either D gap. Block down and lead on the playside OLB.

i would run off the tackles. the option is a good choice, and even a counter would work. the other suggestion of throwing versus an eight man front is a good one. i had some success with some short routes, and i managed to get a WR screen into my playbook with a bunch of 8 & 9 year old kids. Also don't be afraid to use your tight end in the passing game. if your quaterback as any kind of passer he should be able to at least loft it to the tight end on an out route. That will soften up the outside and allow your off-tackle plays to be more effective. let me know if any of this works.
don't worry about what you don't know. if you had to know what you dont' know you would've learned it by now
Are you a double wing team? If so why not run power toss or supper power to the 6 or 7 edge? With this defensive alignment the 4 playside defenders are ripe for any type of speed sweep or toss plays to the outside. We are a wing-t team v/s a defense alingment like this I would run the jet sweep and its compliments to either side untill they bring down everyone to stop the sweep, then run waggle pass over the top of the secondary. You dont have to worry about the backside defenders at the L.O.S. because they cannot catch up to the play!
