I have no experience with the zone. I think after some injuries we have sustained on our OLine that zone blocking would be very beneficial to us. Can you help me out - on how to learn the zone and fast! We are a multiple set offense based out the I. We like to run the I from normal pro and twins sets, and some one back from trips with a TE backside, Two WRs to teh TE side with a split isolated on the backside, and twins - pro look. We have the capability to possible use two TE two WR one back. In our division we see alot of the split 6, and 5-3. I know I have rambaled on but I need some help. What are the best books, videos to get and is there anyway I can get some help from you. Please and Thanks.
as a high school ol coach who's kids also play defense, this has been our simplified version of zone blocking which has been pretty effective. For IZ we start teaching everyone to take a 2/10 oclock step and pick up what shows. This gives everyone their area of responsibility. Then we gradually start teaching them to help where thay can which eventually gets us close to what everyone else does. Is this perfect? No. Head ups give us trouble with base rules and we start talking about uncovered helping covered to lb. You 2 have these two etc..... But they can always go back to their 2 and 10 base steps when they get confused and end up in pretty good shape. This has been a good teaching progression for the coach who may only have15 minutes a day to devote to run blocking.
