I'm agree with the last two posts, but just because I'm curious, I too would like to see a copy of a form, scoring system, or something related to grading lineman. It always seems like when you watch a D1 game on TV, the announcers brag on a lineman saying he "grades out well" or his coaches grade him at 100%. Just wondering where numbers and claims like that come from.
I coach youth ball (7th grade) and we use the same grading system that we used where I played in College. We treat the OL Grades like their "Stats" and it is a real motivational tool for them.
Here, briefly, is the system - Evaluate every player on every play using the following criteria:
0 = mental error (even if they pancaked the WRONG guy, it's still a 0)
1 = right assignment, but not executed effectively
2 = right guy, assignment effectively executed
3 = knockdown or extra effort (blocked 2 guys, recovered a loose ball (after completing their block))
4 = pancake
1.80 is a Winning Performance
2.00 is Excellent Performance
Also track on a % basis - total # of 2's, 3's, and 4's are divided by the total number of plays to derive the Success %.
85% is Winning Performance
90% is Excellent Performance
We accumulate these over the year and will use the results for end of year awards
I have an Excel spreadsheet that calculates and cumulates this. I just enter the raw data of each play and it does the rest. I'd be happy to send it to anyone that would like it....just email me...I think my email address will appear on here when I post this......guess not.....oh well....it's:
