Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
I have been having a hard time getting my linemen to the second level backers for our zone play in our gun option scheme. We get the double teams fine, but the linebackers seem to make many of the tackles. It's very frustrating and I've tried drills to emphasize it, but 5 games into the season it doesn't seem like it's working. Any advice?
Coach,
I dont know what tjschel's problems are, but i am experiencing the same type of problem. When we are running a zone read from gun, my oline does fine on the double team, but neither lineman wants to get off the double team and get to the second level. We have drilled the block, demo that when your partner gets "hippo", one of you has to get to the playside backer. I think they are afraid to let go of a down lineman and move on. we get great point of attack blocking, but the LB's are making tackles after short gains. We show the team on film that they are not getting to second level, they understand the concept and do well in drills, but come game time, no one comes off the double team.
Exactly what alscarpine is saying is what we are experiencing. This week we play a team that runs a 4-3 scheme so actually it's going to help us I think. But the adjustment I've made is to go to man blocking vs. a 4-4 scheme to get more bodies on the linebackers right away. Haven't been able to work on it yet.
Coach Campbell, have you experienced the 2nd level problems? If so, what have you done to try to correct it?
alscarpine, have you tried man blocking to try to change this up?
