Anyone coach in Texas?

The X's & O's of Football

not so well. we are a senior-laden team with seniors that have never won at any level. won 1 game as freshmen, 2 as sophomores. last years jv & varsity were both 0-10. we came in this spring and installed a new offense. haven't mastered all the little in's & out's that go with it yet. can't get the passing game going like we need it too. we are 3-5 with the 5 losses by a combined 33 points. in every ball game with chance to win it at the end. but, can't seem to get it done. we lack confidence in ourselves in key positions and these guys are the stereotypical "don't know how to win" cases. the lower levels (sophs & frosh) are doing extremely well (only 1 loss between them). feel good that they are in the system and know that by the time they are on the varsity we will be "fluent" with our schemes and have a chance to really do some special things.

i will say this: installing a new scheme completely different from what a team had been doing is EXTREMELY difficult. the seniors were real receptive and play hard. but, it is new and the system - as with any system - it takes a year or two to get truly comfortable with, especially at the qb position. we are getting better at route running & pass catching. the young qb's are developing the skills needed to run an offense. too bad we didn't have these seniors in this system when they were sophs or juniors.
