Are there any videos out there that show/teach this topic. I am very interested but have found only books on the subject (Multiple 4-3 and Multiple Coverages books) and would like a technique and game tape video on DVD or VHS.
Bill: When I last coached in College (1996) I HAD a great video on teaching "QUARTERS" coverage by Dave Campo - then the Secondary Coach of the Super Bowl Champion Dallas Cowboys.
Somehow, over the years, I let that tape get away from me, & don't know WHO has it.
It was about 4-5 hours long, & was not for sale. It is a tape Campo used with the DB's of the Cowboys. Our staff visited Dallas, & he gave it to us.
Don't know HOW you would go about finding one, but come to think of it - I haven't seen any good videos on the subject EXCEPT that one.
I have a good friend who uses this at the High School level (who was ON our staff in college in 1996). If you PHONE me, I'll put you in touch with him. I do not want to put his email address on the site. He might be able to send you a tape of one of his games after the season winds down.
We had alot of success throwing in some cover 2 post snap vs. trips. I know it leaves a potential 3 v 1 deep, however, who is going to call vert routes if you are a base cover 4 team? Not a smart OC. This way, you can show cover 4 and have OLB take flats, cover 3 and rob flats with FS, or roll into 2 and have corner jump the flats with FS over the top. I personally would not want to get into trips if a team showed all three of these. And even if you just show a mix of coverages vs. trips early in the first quarter then go base for the remainder of the game, it will most likely discourage the opposing OC from getting in it. If you can keep them from getting in Trips, you can eliminate the major weakness in cover 4.
Has worked for us anyway.
Added: This also helped us prevent teams from throwing the bubble to the middle slot out of trips. We got two picks (one score) off of our CB anticipating and jumping it in cover 2.
