Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
DEPENDING on if you teach hands OR forearm for blow delivery = we like left handed players on the right (inside forearm would be strongest), & right handed players on the left (for same reason). If you use HANDS - that would not be important.
If you have ALL right OR left handers - get 2 to 1 blow delivery with what would be your INSIDE forearm (for those who stay on the same side & DON'T "flip").
Flipping is FINE! It is a matter of individual preference.
Vs. teams we play that use MULTIPLE SHIFTS &/OR MOTIONS (changing STRENGTH once or twice before EACH snap) - flipping (IMO) would be nonsensical unless you want your stand up people all running around like a "Chinese Fire Drill"!.
You make an excellent point. We do teach the forearm shoulder delivery with the LBs and hand and Hat blow delivery to the DL. We flop both our Es and our LBs, but people that we play a great deal know this so they mess with us with shifts and motions, walking the TE to the other side Etc. and it does look like a hot mess so we are going to change our thinking a little bit and switch to a right and left side. I wanted to get some input on the subject. thanks for your time.
We don't care if a team trades the TE or the strength most of the time. Their is little difference between our ends and our OLB's. We have a strongside and weakside (DE, DT, OLB), but we teach both sides to play the same. Teams will try to trade the TE and run powers or traps, but since we play all DL positions the same it usually isn't a problem. The weak end plays the power just like the strong end and we rep our shade defensive tackle to play the trap just like our 3 technique. Our offense trades the TE fairly often so we see it in the Spring a lot. My feelings are if the offense can get you running around just to get lined up they already have an advantage. If a team trades on us we simply bump the entire DL and OLB's become the opposite. The SLB becomes the WLB and vice versa. MLB jump bumps over from A-Gap to A-Gap and we play ball.
