Do any of you guys have any ideas on how to stop the jet sweep package. What we tried to do was step the end out hard so he would not get reached and scrape the LB to the outside hip of the DE when he got the jet read. this worked well at times and not so well at others. Also it made us weak against the G block on the Down Play. Any info would be greatly appreciated. We run a base 43 with some 44 and 50 principles.
Coach, This year that fly sweep was big where we are at. It seemed everyone we played had it. What we saw was the fly sweep with the Iso of the Running backs. So they would hand off the fly or give to the iso to keep our lb honest. We Run a version of the 4-3 and our saftey is force so he really blew up that fly every time. We never expect our end to contain any sweep, even though we tell him he can't be reached. Who ever our force player is will get lots of reps to stop that fly. Of its a 4-4 our olb will be responsible etc...
Yes. I have been looking at the cover, would it not be more beneficial to have that safety already close to the line to play the jet sweep as opposed to having him play the alley on it? How would you defend the jet sweep, using cover 2.
I reconsidered. In the 44, the 4 dlinemen and the 2 inside linebackers are responsible for the fullback on the belly. The outside backer and the alley free safety is resposible for the jet sweep.
Our base D is a 5-2 and we did well against the jet sweep as long as our ends did their jobs and kept outside leverage. We treat a slot like a tight end and never go deeper than 1 yd in the backfield. Most of the time we simply strung the play out till help came.
In 2002 we ran the Jet Sweep as our base offense. A defense that will hurt the entire Jet Series is a Split-6 (33 Tight) and take your two outside linebackers, and make sure they are outside shade of the halfbacks. Tell your outside backers to abuse the halfbacks and drive them into the ball carrier. That destroyed us when we ran it. As a defensive coach in the multiple-40, that is what I would use to stop the Jet.
