Illinois games were played this past Friday and Saturday, all at the University of Illinois field. Illinois has eight classes with 8A being the biggest.

1A--Freeport Aquin beat Cambridge

John - TWO of the teams I am helping (as "Offensive Consultant") in Virginia (both of them had their staffs at the clinic you attended in Richmond last summer) are 11-1 & are entering the 5A (Matoaca HS), & 4A (Powhatan HS) State Semi-Finals this coming Saturday. They are among the highest classifications in Va., since 1A is the smallest.

They BOTH run the offense we discussed at the clinic 100%!

We don't have a state championship but many Divisional Champions in many sections in the state. The Souther Section is the biggest with over 650 schools. We are in Div I and are playing in the Semi Finals this week

3 comments about the Illinois State Championships:

Driscoll Catholic was the first team in Illinois History to win 5 State Championships back to back (this was their first time under a new HC)

Morris, Il. beat NATIONALLY RANKED Joliet Catholic in the prior round on their way to the Championship, they had lost to them about 5 times previously in the playoffs.

This was the first time a "multiplier" was enacted against private schools to supposedly make things more equitable.

5A - Bixby Vs. Shawnee/Tulsa Washington winner (game was postponed over legal dispute)
4A - Clinton Vs. Wagoner

2A - Davis/Bethany Vs. Comanche/Chandler
A - Vian/Tonkawa Vs. Velma-Alma/Washington

6A thru 2A will be Saturday. 2A and A play five rounds instead of four, so they are in the semi's this Saturday.

It is now thrown out and will be restructured for next season. That is my understanding of a very complicated matter anyway.

Katrina pushed the championships in MS back one week. This is semifinal weekend here. We played #1, 3 and 4 in our class (3A) this season. #1 and #3 play tonight for a trip to state. I'll post the championship pairings tomorrow. South Panola (5A) is ranked #10 by USA Today.

3A - Redemptorist vs Notre Dame (Redemptorist avenges week one loss to ND and win 13-6)
2A - John Curtis vs St. Charles Catholic (John Curtis)

Just for those who are interested, 5A & 4A (largest two classifications) all schools are public high schools. 3A, 2A, & 1A are all private schools.

3A: Hazlehurst (12-0) vs. Charleston (13-1)

2A: Hollandale Simmons (13-0) vs. Lumberton (13-0)

South Panola has a 44 game winning streak. They last lost to Wayne County, one of the 4A finalist. Two of Steve McNair's cousins play for 1A Mount Olive (McNair's alma mater).

Texas 1105 and Florida 500. If I am correct Southern Section has 381 of the schools playing in CA.
