Does anyone out there have any film on Texas A&M this year, off TV or whatever, I don't get to see them much up my way but I am real interested to see their film since I saw their Texas game and they run true Veer out of the gun some, not the zone read that everyone else does. I would love to get my hands on it if you have it, even the Texas game since I did not get to tape that
Thanks
Coach Graham
I will see if I can come up with some games for you on DVD. A&M with McNeal at QB featured speed option from a number of different looks this season. With McGee at QB against Texas they ran a lot of veer and load from the gun with McGee being a much more physical runner, which apparently surprised the Texas defense, as they seemed to have difficulty with their assignments much of the day.
I'll see what I can come up with coach and will get back to you.

That would be awesome, I have some stuff to trade. SO they weren't running the veer out of gun until McNeal went down huh, that is what I am most interested in is the veer out of gun so even if they ran it some with McNeal I would be interested. I saw that game and was loving what they were doing we don't see A&M much up here in PA so I didn't get to see many other games so I didnt know if they had done that all year or not. I really want to get a hold of that Texas game especially. It looked like Franchioni went back to his old Pitt State split back veer days a little. Very interesting

Actually, A&M ran plenty of gun option with Reggie at QB, just not much true veer triple option.
Only game you'll see that before texas is the Kansas State game. The K-State game was the first game where they really used Jorvorskie Lane extensively in a two-back set, and it helped their option game tremendously.
They went away from that during the Iowa State game, the next game, inexplicably.
When McNeal went down with a high ankle sprain against OU, they went back to it, and used it to beat down OU's defense, and do the same with texas.
The way McNeal and McGee ran the option was different. McNeal would attempt to play the DE more, making him make a decision. McGee would attack the DE, basically forcing him to take him as his read, and then pitch to the pitchman, Courtney Lewis. It put a lot more pressure on defenses when McGee ran it, b/c he did it so quickly.
I would suspect that Florida must run it coach, since Fran's staff spent a lot of time working with Coach Meyer's staff last off-season in expanding their option game out of the gun.

I did watch most of Florida's games this year and did not see as much as thought I would....
besides that I saw no one else but a high school team run it
You are either coaching it or allowing it to happen!</blockquote>
Coach, I would be interested in your A&M tapes since I'm checking out the 1/2 Back Spread Option. Please send me your list to santiagohec@yahoo.com and hopefully, we can work out a trade.
CYFL coach,
hey how are you I'd be interested in your tradelist on anything that has to do with anything spread gun I'm a new highschool coach and my Head coach is fond of the offense and I would like to learn more about it as well. email me at mr_fr33z3@yahoo.com. thanks coach Hall
Coach I just got back from Texas A&M's clinic. Great staff, great hosts. Got some good ideas on veer from the gun. In fact we are going to add this to what we teach at our option camp/clinic this summer. A Texas High school coach made a nneat presentation on running midline from the gun at the clinic. The camp is in Pottstown, PA. For more information e-mail me at ajw15@scasd.org
They do read the DE as in veer under center. We run it very much like they do in that the Q's first step is a position step about 45 degrees into the LOS. The second step is a long ride step towards the LOS as the RB and Q mesh. They take an additional sort of skip step after the ridde step which tales the Q closer to the LOS. Aiming point for the RB is the outside cheek of the guard.. Our Q's feel that it is an easier read than the under center veer.
I would imagine it is. They have a great angle to really see the dive key. What about the Texas school and midline gun? Do they read the 3 tech?
wc76: How much Gun offense are you? I know our QB wants to run the gun, but I'm not prepared to do a total overhaul...yet. I'm too much of a "if it isn't broke, don't fix it" guy.
"You cannot expect greatness unless you sacrifice greatly."
95% of our offense is from the gun. We run read triple with tag blocking (counter trey scheme)rather than zone, jet, shovel option and this year alot more veer. We also threw the ball about 18 times a game rather than our 5 or 6 times a games when we were a veer midline team. On midline they read the 3 tech and blocked zone away ffrom him. T the guard to the 3's side would release for the LB to his side and the tackle would fan. Looks neat on paper. Caan't wait to try it.
