I was wondering if anyone had any off season conditioning material on a file in word or excel. I am looking for a good off season weight program to build off of.
Concentrate now on increasing their GENERAL level of conditioning. Do this in the form of bodyweight exercises such as jumping jacks, bodyweight squats, mountain climbers, shuffle splits, 8 count bodybuilders, etc. and use little to no rest inbetween sets. Rotate b/w exercises for (in the beginning) around 2-3 sets of each movement for 20-30 seconds per set. Later on (months later) increase to 4-5 sets of 20-30 seconds per set.
Also, Tempo Runs are great for increasing an athletes general level of conditioning and also work as a recovery tool. They are run at 75% max speed or less (this is very important) for distances ranging from 40 - 100 yards. Total volume should range b/w 600-1600 total yards depending on what else you are doing.
As the season nears, go with a metabolic plan that will be much more specific to football.
Look in the archives of the strength/conditioning forums of this site and you will find a tremendous amount of info on these subjects.
