Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
I have heard about these "Mat Drills" in a couple of articles, but I have never talked to anyone in depth about them. I guess FSU incorporated these into their workouts. I got an understanding of what they are; I have a video from Judson HS (TX) that shows various drills (but it seems old, choppy screen, maybe 10 years or so) and there is no sound. However, I would like to know what the structure of these workouts are, when do you implement them, what are some of the MAIN drills, and so forth. Any information would be tremendous. Keep up the great work fellas!

The BEST I have evers seen on Mat Drills (complete with descriptions AND photos) is in the book by Lou Holtz called "The Grass Is Greener" (1974). You can no longer BUY it, but you CAN get it thru an "Interlibrary Loan" at any PUBLIC LIBRARY! It is WELL WORTH the effort.
PS: The Lou Holtz "MAT DRILLS" are the ones I used in my out-of-season program. I can honestly say that THESE (more than anything we did out-of-season) transformed a group of kids at a school I coached at from a bunch of "soft" kids who were losing when I got there, to a bunch of TOUGH kids that won. THE KIDS LOVED THESE!!!!!
PPS: We did two others not shown in his book, "THE GRASS IS GREENER:
#1 "KING OF THE MAT" = put a GROUP (DLM; LBers; Secondary; etc.) on the mat, & the last one LEFT on the mat WINS! Only rule was that they must NOT stand up. NOTE: It was "interesting" to see how 2 or 3 would "team up" & try to shove the TOUGHEST kids off the mat (which made them even tougher)!
#2 "HARNESS DRILL" = we bought a harness that enables two players to pull AGAINST each other. 2 kids started in a 3 poins stance & charged in opposite direction. It taught "LEVERAGE" better than anything I ever saw because the kid that raised up the highest got flipped over on his back! The winner was the man with forward momentum after 6 seconds. These were done on the wrestling mat, of course!.
