Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
What kind of option drills do you work with your QB's and RB's? Also how often and what is the duration of these drills? As you run these drills what are the specific coaching points that you zero in on with each group? Also what works best in the passing game to compliment the option game? Do you also let the Qb call pass plays at the line?

Obviously one drill would be the mesh drill between QB's and backs. The pitch drill should be practiced as a warm up drill, what drills would you like and I'll be glad to help. Coach CAmpbell
Coach I base my offense off of your one back manual. The reason I am asking about these positions is I need help because I have only coached the offensive line. In the mesh drill do you have a prgression that you go through? Do you work the mesh from midline, then veer, and then speed and load schemes? Are there any tools that you would use to develop the Qb's footwork in each of these?
I have 2 drills that might be of some help ( one Icame up with through necessity and one I got from Syracuse University) to teach the proper reads for the quarterback on the triple option play have a coach stand where the dive key would be aligned and standing beside a regular blocking dummy. At the snap of the ball have the Q.B read the reaction of the dummy that the coach is controlling and which the coach has 3 ways to go - 1st the coach can shove the dummy to fall straight upfield ,2nd he can shove the dummy to fall down the line of scrimmage ,3rd he can do nothing at all . Tell your Q.B that the ball carrier must NEVER be the one who has to step over the bag ! It will be instant recognition for both the Q.B and the F.B (if the F.B gets the ball and the coach has shoved the dummy oveer so that it falls down the line of scrimmage HE will have to step over the dummy with the ball in his hands and everyone will know that the Q.B made the wrong decision, likewise should the Q.B keep the ball when the coach shoves the dummy upfield the Q.B will have to step over the dummy with the ball in his hands and he will know that his decision was wrong immediately. The Q.B should be told that if the bag doesn't move during the mesh faze then he MUST give to the fullback. The second drill is for the midline option and involves 2 Q.B's ,1 F.b , 1 T.B , and a center. Have the backs line up as they would to run the play, have one Q.B stand where the pitch key would be and have him hold a ball and face the backs. Snap a ball to the Q.B have him open up and give to the F.B and at the moment the mesh is being made have the other Q.B underhand his ball in a spiral to the Q.B so that he catches it about his facemask height as soon as the F.B clears him. After he catches the ball from the other Q.B he attacks him as the pitch key and pitches or keeps based on his reaction. This will get both Q.B's understanding what to look for and how to react to the pitch key from both the Q.B's perspective and the pitch key's perspective.
