Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
I've been studing the zone concept for a couple of years and don't want to fully implement it until I totally feel comfortable switching too it. For those of you that run the Stretch, Toss or other outside zone plays do you all use the release/takeover method? Can you tell me what you like and dislike about this and how it has effected your team? By release/takeover I mean that the man who is covered releases to the outside of the down lineman ripping through his outside shoulder, passing him off to the uncovered man who is logging the outside number of the down defender. I'd like to get a discussion started on this because I have a couple of other questions about technique. Thanks to all of those that get involved in this.
I have used the release / takeover method for the past 4 years and have found it to be very effective and easy to teach.I have used it in the stretch play as well as toss and even speed option plays.I have run these plays out of slot formations as well as tight end formations and found both to work very well without any adjustments. The only time I have had any sort of problems is when the end man on the defensive line is playing a wide outside shade making it hard if not impossible to be overtaken by our tackle or tight end in this case we simply put this play to bed and run inside zone at the defense until they tighten up their front.Hope this is helpful to you and good luck. P.S The offense I run averaged 54 (yes 54) points per game last year and the stretch play was our best running play.

Speaking for in the trenches. Indeed we do pass defenders off in our combos the way we do it depends upon the type of play called and dictated by their footwork If the inside zone is called the passing of of a defender comes off the vertical push when the LBer reaches the same level as the combo. The faster the play goes outside the faster the combos can be passed off. Coach Del good post I'm with you. I want to coach with you 54 points a game. Its nice having you participate in our site. At what point do you teach the kids to pick up the 2nd level? I know that they wait for the LB'er to come to them but what is the key they are looking for to come off? Also what are your best drills for this? One more question, is the stretch ever cut back or is it ..read the TE's block and either hit off tackle or bounce outside?
