Guys... let's talk the defensive alignment. I just recieved my copy of the CW Post's 44 defense and their base alignments are
E- 5 tech
N- 1 tech
T- 3 tech
S- 7 tech
ILbs: strongside- 30 tech & Weakside- 20 tech
I don't know about you guys but that leaves the strongside A gap clear... does thing worry anyone? And if so, what do (did) you do to change this? If anyone runs this defense at the high school level, what adjustments did you make? Positives? Negatives? Coverages?
We do not run this exact scheme. We are a 4-4 (really a Wide Tackle6), but at times we run the look you describe. With the backside tackle in a shade on the center or in a 1 tech on the guard, it's difficult for the offense to block the backside LB. I view him as a run defender to anything in strong A-gap. This position also puts him in a great spot to stunt to the strong side, while allowing the strongside LB to run to the ball.
1.) based on your opponents for next year; what plays can be run there ( stg. A)that can hurt you?
a.) for us it is the trap and then the midline
2.) on the video, what do the ILB key?
3.) what we have done is this:
a.) stunt the DT into the A gap
b.) ILB key backs: all backs in A = you in A
c.) BSLB: on all flow strong, he is the Strong A player, BSOLB is the B gap defender
d.) play double 1 techniques
e.) play a shade weak on the center and stunt the NG in to the strong A and the WDE into the weakside B.
