Does anyone have any good footwork drills to use as a warm-up before lifting. We use ladders and the dots, I was just wondering if anyone had any different ideas.
In addition to the ladders and dots, DON'T FORGET THE JUMP ROPES. IMO, the jump rope is the single best tool we have to quicken players feet! It is an integral part of my conditioning and cardiovascular regimens year 'round. I often have contests with the players, just improvising on a daily basis that segment of the routine, some kind of competion among the guys to get the juices flowing before lifting. One they really like best is the one where we let them devise a 2 minute routine of their own making and then judging it on originality, degree of difficulty, degree of execution. I then offer a reward to the winner, usually a steak at his favorite restaurant or whatever. On the HS level, you could dream up your own reward system, but I feel certain it will enhance the quickness of their feet!
