I have the Alex Gibbs tapes which are great! But I'm wondering what is the TE's responsibility. Do the covered/uncovered rules apply to him? or is he responsible for force? I thinking mainly about a 8 man front out of a one back formation. What do you all do? If I understand Gibbs correctly he does not block force with the core (including the TE) unless they tag it. Is this correct? (for you guys who have seen the tape?)

We are a 4 wide team, except we have a Tight Slot (H-Back) in the game 90% of the time and we run a lot of zone. Year in and year out the outside zone has been our #1 play. You can apply how we use our Tight Slot to your TE, it is basically the same thing.
We ask our Tight Slot to know what type of formation we are in. He has to know if we are in a 2x2 receiver set or a 3x1 receiver set. If we are in a 2x2 set, our Tight Slot is asked to step with his inside foot straight up the field (I know it isn't a zone step) and use his inside hand to punch the DE to help his Offensive Tackle for a 1/2 second, release outside and block the OLB. If the OLB is sitting on the L.O.S. than the Tight Slot can't mess around with helping the OT, he has to attack the OLB, right now. If we are in a 3x1 set, 90% of the teams will bump over, not run over like man, therefor we now tell our Tight Slot who is the #3 receiver to that side to step with his inside foot hard, double the End with the OT and look for the near inside backer. If he comes over the top the Tight Slot gets him, if he tries to shoot inside the B-Gap, the OT has to come off and pick him up. You can apply these rules to your TE package. Same difference!!!
