Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
Honestly, how many of you that are running the gun offense are reading the backside defensive end ("C" gap player)? Is this easy for the QB to do? Does it create fumbles? Thanks for your input!
Any coaches that I know that run a gun read the BSDE. Why would you feel that this will create fumbles or is any harder to read than any other read man? Just curious, as it has never been a problem for us.

Because the QB isn't looking the ball into the running backs pocket is the reason I thought it could be a problem with fumbles. I understand that the running back is responsible for the mesh, however, I thought it could present a problem. But, if you have been doing it for years, then I'm sure it isn't a problem I should be concerned about.
We just started installin the read a few weeks ago and have not had a single fumble or issue with the mesh. It seems to be easy for the QB and back to work it out. We align the QB at about 5-6 and the back is at his heels maybe slightly deeper. I read in a post of yours that you align the QB at 6-8 is that a feel thing for the QB or is it determined some other way?
I always base it mostly on the QB's personal preference, but my real reason is based on having a good dependable snapper! It all starts with him and the deeper I can comfortably set the QB from the LOS and know that I am going to get a good tight spiral snap into his hands in about 3/10 of a second or less, the better off we are.
1. It gives QB more time to pick up free runner that we always see and to use his legs and become his own best blocker of the 6th man, as we are able to put a hat on the other five most often. With 5 wides, they can't load the box with anymore than six and have a chance!
2. A reliable snapper is a must! He is the man that must be solid in his performance on every snap, not 9 out of 10, but 10 out of 10 as one bad one will kill you in a critical situation!
