Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
We run a 4-4 defense, and are looking at using a change up like the 5-2 in passing situations. I like the cover 2 look also vs. an option as (something to use as well as the 4-4). I like the teaching because the two ILB remain the same. Defensive line teaching still remains similar with the block recognition. My question lies with the safeties. Would they be your OLB types? As stated in previous posts, I don't want to do too much and have the kids think too much and not play enough. We don't have spring ball in Michigan so our contact with the kids is a bit more limited. Do the two defenses work in tandem very well?
We run a 44 and when we want to go to Cover 2, we put the weak side OLB on the hash to be the other safety. With this we have a 5 under 2 deep zone or a combo 5 under man and 2 deep zone. On your option question , out of cover 2 our weak side OLB that is now on the hash has the same pitch responsibility if option shows to his side as he had as an OLB. If you don't have much time to teach and want to keep it simple, this is the best way.In a true pass situation we will sub in another safety for the olb.
