I'm new to the site so I may have missed a discussion on this topic already - but I was wondering how you guys that run a lot of counter trey would block a heavy blitzing 3-3-5. We run out of a slot I most of the time (2-back, no T.E.)- and weren't sure if we could run counter vs this look very effectively. Any suggestions? Has anybody else had success with other running schemes out of this set vs a heavy blitzing 3-3 look?
Yes - you WANT to run the Counter vs blitzing teams. Front side gaps down & you pull the trapper and wrapper from the backside. GREAT vs stunting & blitzing teams!!!!!!!
To insure cutting off penetration - no one split MORE than 18", & the O-Line is off the ball with their helmets on the Center's belt!
Depending on how many they put in the box - you MAY need a TE (possibly your slot back could motion in & help)!
The teams that are BEST at this play generally have 1 or 2 TE's in the game!!!!!
It's a great blitz beater! Just as Bill has posted above. You know the philosophy that says the average team panics in the face of an all out blitz while the really good teams see it as a great chance to exploit your opponent! Do your home work, film study, live scouting, etc. Then GAME PLAN how to beat that blitz with CONSISTENCY, because the sooner you are able to prove to the defense that you came PREPARED to beat them at their own game, provided they have good sense, they will back off. Just my opinion as always.
