Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
I believe what Coach Campbell is saying is that..........if the DT is reached, he must play through the back door. The DT is not going to fight across his face, but rather come underneath for cut back.
From my understanding (listening to coach campbell) they want to play through the backdoor vs. zone to help with cutback. The DT's will go through the backdoor and then get flat down the l.o.s. We have not yet gone to this, but if you see a lot of zone.........it does make sense.
the only time they would want to do that in my opinon is IF they have been beat----the ol has their outside hip and their only hope is to back door and try to get some control of that area of the field.
Maybe I can help. If your defense is a gap control defense, then this should make it clearer.
Your D-tackles have a gap responsibility. They are front door (Zone to) if their gap is to the playside of the zone, and back door (Zone Away) if their gap is on the backside of the zone.
This goes hand in hand with a stimulus/response defensive theory.
Example: Away=Shoot (Backdoor Concept) So if your man goes away, shoot the gap, get flat down the los, find the football.
Base = Squeeze (Front Door Concept) If your man comes to you, squeeze him back out of the gap, push/pull, rip, find the football.
