Coach, in my opinion it depends on what kind of formation they use to run the option out of and which option type they like most -Tripple? Double? Option Pass? Ok, I think we don´t have to discuss that a well executed option is hard to stop unless you having your DB´s playing absolutley disciplined, reading QB, FB, TE or Slot able to make quick decisions if they realize what´s going on. I would prefer run support first using a press coverage, we call it a 4-3 Eagle/Run-placing the safeties next to our OLB with a run-responsibility first, playing zone second, reading inside/out, because I don´t wanna get beat deep by that option pass. If our scouting shows that they use it often out of a 40-motion we want the line to slant to the motionside by using check calls. Worked pretty well... Hope that helped you a bit- knowing that the option can be defended in several ways...probably you´ll here more here.

Coach as an option coach I like to face the 4-3 schemes with the veer and the midline, as an option coach defenses that I don't like to face are the 3-3-5 schemes. Coach CAmpbell
