Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
How much time per practice (or per week) do you spend on clock management? I know the 2 minute offense is important, but I feel (as I'm sure everyone else does too) it is important for players to understand the clock at all times during a game. What methods does everyone use in practicing for "slow down" mode, etc.?
We spend 15-20 minutes each Thursday on "2 Minute Offense" (day before the game). This PROBABLY isn't enough - but since we are a pure Pro-Style dropback pass team - we are in effect in a 2 minute offense all of the time (except we USUALLY huddle when not in "2 MIN" & the clock is running). The work = all CLOCK MANAGEMENT - NOT SEPERATE PLAYS (run our base offense)!
"2 Minute Slow down mode" controlled from sidelines. Here are the guidelines:
If opponent has 0 time outs left, & you have just made a first down, it looks like this:
1st & 10 - take delay penalty----------25 seconds
1st & 15 - run a play---------------------5 seconds
Official spots ball-------------------------5 seconds
2nd & 15 - take a delay penalty-------25 seconds
2nd & 20 - run a play--------------------5 seconds
Official spots ball-------------------------5 seconds
3rd & 20 - take a delay penalty-------25 seconds
3rd & 25 - run a play--------------------5 seconds
Official spots ball-------------------------5 seconds
4th & 25 - take a delay penalty--------25 seconds
4th & 30 - run a play---------------------5 seconds
TOTAL TIME KILLED: 135 SECNDS (2 minutes & 15 seconds)
Thanks for the great response! One question, during your slow down mode, when you say "run a play", is this a Victory play or an actual handoff or QB sweep or something? I assume b/c of the down & distance you gave, that it is a Victory play.
Thanks again, Coach...your input is very valuable to me!
Yes - generally "VICTORY". Now that's assuming they have NO TIMEOUTS left inside 2 minutes. IF we needed ONE MORE FIRST DOWN, we may run an actual play (a play with safe ball handling, that has been going well for us). If we hand the ball off - the RB folds over the ball with both arms!
