Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
Hey coaches, I am new to this offense and I like some info on short yardage and goalline. Do you stay in gun? go under center? With a short field how does it influence your play calling? Thanks
I run a wide open 3 x 2 empty gun and we throw the fire out of the ball! BUT, I LEARNED AFTER 18 YEARS OF RUNNING A SPREAD GUN (LONG BEFORE IT EVER BECAME POPULAR) THAT WHEN YOU GET DOWN CLOSE IN NEED OF A FIRST DOWN OR TOUCHDOWN, YOU HAD BETTER BE ABLE TO RUN THE BALL AS WELL!!! SO, I GO TO ANY NUMBER OF POWER FORMATIONS ( POWER "I", STACK "I" DOUBLE TITE FULL HOUSE, ETC.) AND WE DO OUR BEST TO RAM IT IN THERE!
Remember, no matter how you spread them out down close, those passing lanes really shrink and an INT becomes a very big drive stopper on many an occasion! I used to be one of those guys who would say:
I'll pass coming out, going in and any other spot on the field I choose to do so". Well, that's all fine and dandy, but if you WANT TO WIN YOU GET OUT OF THAT MINDSET REAL QUICK.
Just my way as always.

There was a coach at the AFCA clinic who spoke on this a little bit. He would get in a 2X2 bunch look with his recievers in really close. From this they ran bubble, zone read, and threw their quick game. He said the quick game was very effective this way. They also would fake zone and pull both guards and let the QB keep it, and said he had alot of success with that.
