Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
My defensive staff is in the process of reviewing and adding run blitzes and stunts to our 5-2 Monster(SS) base defense. My question is what strongside and weakside stunts/run blitzes have been effective for you using the 50 front?
Check out the STEELERS. You can see replays of the Super Bowl, etc on "NFL TOTAL ACCESS", ESPN, etc.
They probably have the best blitz package I ever saw from the 3-4 (I.E. 5-2)
PS: ON NFL NETWORK ("NFL TOTAL ACCESS" Wednesday April 5 (8:00 PM) there will be two Steelers games back to back (Super Bowl, & 1 regular season game).
I am a huge Steelers fan went to Detroit and witnessed one for the thumb. I am in my early thirties so I do not really remember the golden age. This is my Steeler golden age. The Steeler's seem to disguise where the pressure is coming from in their zone blitz scheme, and more times then not, they do not bring many extra guys. I have used their delayed middle LB cross blitz, which I picked up later in the season. But, for the most part, their scheme is a little more complicated then what I am looking for on the High School level. I looking for a simple/stupid, but effective, weak and strongside stunt or blitz that coaches have used successfully.
As to the STEELERS - you can simplify their schemes by not using as MUCH as they do! One of my former players (James Farrior) currently CALLS the defense on the field for the Steelers (he played in the Pro Bowl in 2004). Another of my former player players (Darren Perry) coaches the Secondary for the Steelers (having started at F/S for them for 9 years). They both have told me that what they do CAN be used in High School, if you are SELECTIVE as to how much you try to TEACH young kids with limited time.
Alignments did not transfer correctly once I replied. DE T N T DE in a two tight end front tackles will line-up head up on the OT, LBERS five yards over the guards, and D-ends over the tight-ends.
SS d gap, OLB/DE c gap - thunder
SS c gap, OLB/DE D gap - lightning
can run the above from 3 weak - use FS with weak OLB/DE instead and drop SS
Weak OLB/DE C gap; DT D gap (no reduction vs open formation) - Xit
DT in b gap, OLB/DE in C, ILB D gap (read or blitz) -pinch; can involve the SS if you want
SS c gap, SDT in b gap, NT strong A gap, Strong OLB/DE D gap, Strong ILB weak A gap, Weak DT C gap, Weak OLB/DE B gap -- can have strong OLB/DE and weak DT peel off for back in flat. Can also have strong ILB peel back after drawing OG's attention, clearing B gap for weak OLB/DE.
Double eagle (TNT) and blitz a LB through the A gap. Virtually unstoppable with QB under center as the back cannot get there in time if the LB times it well. Can also blitz the FS instead.
Thanks for the information these stunts would fit with most of our defensive schemes. I am going to take a look at some of these stunts at spring practice
