Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
When cracking, what do you coach the kids to do when the defender turns his back to the offensive player or , as some teams in our area do, align facing inside to discourage the crack block ? Thanks.
Motion down all the way to him. On the snap yell as loud as you can "HEY"!!!!! Most turn & give you their numbers. If they don't just motion IN FRONT of him (no clip)!
Great sugggestion from Bill on that yelling "hey" thing, never heard of that one before. As in any crack situation, just instill whatever it takes to INSURE THAT THE HEAD IS IN FRONT WHILE MAKING THE CRACK.

The way I teach the crack against thta type of technique(SLow player/Scrape type) is if he won't give us the KO shot to basically set a basketball pick with our receivers hands over his head and then as the defender comes to them to get into him with his hpis and "pin high" meaning if he loses the block he is to lose it on the LOS side so the Defender loses his pursuit angle.
In 10 years we have never had a call against us with that technique.
Rookie - I drew up the TOSS play MBKCOACH posted on the thread you referred me to.
What is your question?
PS: As to "crack". We crack the 4th man out (#4 in the conventional system for numbering defenders for blocking purposes). CRACK TECHNIQUE DEPENDS ON HIS ALIGN. He can be deep in Cover 4 (quarters); inverted up in Cover 3 Sky; ON the LOS in a S/S blitz position. His 4-5 possible alignments determine the crack TECHNIQUE (as well as the split of the WR; to motion or not; ETC.). This is too much to type! PHONE me at 804-740-4479!
When the defender does not give us a clean blocking surface for the hands we shoot them over our heads to make a show of the fact that I am not using my hands in an illegal fashion. The refs in our league love the illegal use of the hands penalty.
We are always looking for the big hit on the crack, nothing like the blindside smackdown to slow down those fast flowing LB and Safeties. Also in sets like the 4-4 you can also disrupt the pursuit angles of interioir LB's by knocking the OLB down or back inside.
Lastly I love the crack because @ best the Defense has a pretty boy corner one on one with my Skilled HB or Wing with a whole lot of grass to work with, wouldn't you like to see that match up several times a game?
