You have stated about the inside zone, outside zone and toss play. Where does the back aim at or where is his landmark if he is running the OUTSIDE ZONE play? I am NOT talking about the inside zone or the toss play but the OUTSIDE ZONE PLAY. Basically, where does the back aim at when running this play? Is it at the TE, OT?

Coach Allen a key coaching point for your running back on this play is to drop step to set this up, this allows the QB to get the ball to the Back deeper. Coach CAmpbell
Just a question but why is the play blocked SO differently from having the back aim to the outside hip of the OG as compared to the inside hip of the OT when both plays are hitting the b-seam? There is only about a foot or so difference in spacing between the inside hip of the OT and the outside hip of the OG.
I always felt there were 2 inside zone plays and 1 outside zone play. The two inside zone plays are a tight zone and a wide zone. The outside zone play was a toss play.
The tight zone is run off of the OG. The wide zone is run off of the OT and the Toss is run off of the outside of the TE or where a TE would be if running it weak.

Coach Allen I'm with you don't need much more Zone plays then that might add an outside option with it using a rotating zone (double option) Coach Allen good to have you coming to our site. Coach CAmpbell

Coach for the toss play as mentioned by Coach Pastrick does not neccessarily go out side the toss vs a 7 tech. is going outside the toss vs a 9 tech will probably cutback inside. The 9 tech will probably stretch his containg assignment which then forces the ball back inside. The running back vs a 9 tech realizes before the ball is snapped that the ball will probably cutback vs the 7 tech he knows to take it outside. Coach CAmpbell
In my experience of the outside zone play it is important to make the play start off looking exactly or close to the inside zone play as far as the TBs route . In my thinking this will hold the olb in a 4-3 just enough to allow a seal block on him by the fb in our scheme
