Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
I have a few questions regarding the gun option with two backs and no tight end. I want to run the triple and zone read the DE with the backside RB wrapping around the mesh and getting into pitch relationship. In most zone reads, the inside zone blocking goes away from the read and the QB will actually boot away from the movement of the line. However, if your pitch read is the SS or OSLB then what do you do with the playside ILB? He is getting sealed by the G on the combo block on the inside, but what if he reads the QB pull and jumps out and plays QB? Do you crack down on him? Or do you teach your G not to seal, but engage and move him backwards?

Coach this is our primary formation from the gun. You want to inside veer release the backside tackle whether with a combo on a 3 technique or inside to a 1 and a 5 technique to the backside LBer. If the backside LBer flows over the top to difend the QB and pitch coming out the backside that is OK, your tackle can't chase him. Take your zone blocking scheme towards the play. Would like to discuss this topic further. Coach CAmpbell
Thanks very much for the reply, Coach. So when you run triple you zone block in the direction of the dive or the direction of the pitch? I only ask because in most zone reads (ie. Vince Young and UT) the dive goes from one side of the line to the other and the QB will boot in the opposite direction away from the movement of the line. I would assume that you would block for the dive first since that is the first option and then run the pitch "against the grain" so to speak. Is that correct? By the way, I have looked for you gun option manual on the site and can't locate it. How can I get my hands on one?
