Quick question for anyone that has any ideas on this. We are going to run speed option out of the gun this year. When we have a two back set with the gun what do some of you do with 2nd back. I have seen a lot people lead the back on the call side to the force defender or alley runner and the backside back will be the pitch back. Has anyone run this differently?
Like lead the playside back on the D-End to the call side and pitch off of the force defender. Or use the playside back for pitch and use the backside back to cut up "A" gap and block 2nd or 3rd level. Just looking for different ideas on this.
We would option the end man on the los, and have the playside back attack the first man to show outside the pitch key's shoulder. If he stretches, we stretch with him, to the sideline even. Puts the pitch key in a bind. Then, when/if pitch key closes, we are loading the alley player or scraping LB. He will rip with his inside arm, as the pitch man arcs to the outside. The thing that must be worked on is getting the backside rb, the pitch man into a good 5x5 relationship. You can do this with real quick motion, and we have found that it is so quick, the defense is unable to adjust by the snap, so there is little or no disadvantage to the motion.
We will run this to the open side and load the EMLOS with the RB, but it is a much better play to run it to the closed side and load the first man out side the TE and then pitch off of who ever shows.. Great play for us when ran to the TE.

The reaction of the backside end. I move the blocking scheme towards the play called to get the o-line moving in the right direction but will bring the back out the backside according to the defensive end backside. Coach CAmpbell
We fake the zone with front side back and send the backside back for speed option. It is a great play. It forces the ILBs (in a 5-2)to guess. Then pitch off of the last guy on the line of scrimmage. Also ends up being misdirection for you.
