Hand checks are used by uncovered lineman when working combination blocks. An uncovered lineman that is uncovered will always throw his uncoverd hand towards the covered lineman trying to feel any slanter or stretch. If its the passing game it works for the most part the same way. Coach Campbell

Coach the hand check only comes from your offensive linemen that are working a combo with another lineman. The hand check is used for tracking the down defender to the second level defender. The hand check has nothing to do with a 7 man box as it does to the uncovered lineman. Coach CAmpbell
