is OZ and stretch the same play? On Coach Campbells videos he explains stretch is strictly a cutback and AP of RB is outside hip of tackle, while OZ is blocked the same but AP of RB IS OUTSIDE HIPof TE and not as much of cutback but more looking for a seam on PS. Maybe i misunderstood. but are they blocked the same, and are the 2 different plays?
Everybody's terminology is different. To ME they are the same play. Coach Campbell may have them as two seperate variations - you need to contact him directly.
The big thing in the NFL & College is that SOME teams strictly zone block the Wide Zone (another name for it), while others use pullers on the playside!
Like coach Mountjoy stated, terms are unique to coaches. We call our widest play (TB's a.p. 1 yard back and 3 yards outside of the TE) stretch and we call our C gap zone (TB a.p. outside hip of playside tackle) power zone or wide zone. Whatever the somantics, I feel like the difference in the plays is subtle but important. Since the LB's will mirror TB actions, our OL has to take slightly different angles - (backs and OL need to match). On our power zone, we attack the playside of the DL and climb to LB's on that track. On our stretch (widest play), we have to be a little deeper and a little flatter to work our takeover progressions and get to the LB's. The thing our head coach gets on our OL about is when we don't get to a LB and he scrapes over the top. The main reason this happens is when OL and TB lead steps don't match. Most often, it's the TB that is too flat and that causes the LB's to take flat angles and our OL can't get there. So the head coach gets on the OL but it is the backs fault usually for opening too wide.
